Adolescence 101:
Preparing Parents for the Teenage Years

with

W. Keith Sutton, Psy.D.

The adolescent years can be difficult for many parents and children.  Navigating this transition can be tough, but with preparation, you may be able to navigate it with success.  After working for many years with parents who were caught off guard by the transition to adolescence, Dr. Sutton decided to provide a presentation that would help prepare parents for the changes in their child and how to adjust their style to support and guide their new teenager. In this talk he will discuss the process where adolescents begin to seek out more responsibility and freedom and individuate from parents while at the same time needing to remain bonded and guided by their parents. He will discuss areas of possible difficulties during these years including school, relationships (friends and romantic), and drugs and alcohol.
